Top 10 Things in My Gig Bag (Ok, 13 things!)
(Don't forget: the Mood Swings CD give-away ends tomorrow! And be sure to click my ribbon!)
We're playing July 4th. It's been....uh...let's just say way too long since I last cleaned out my gig bag. I figure it's way past time. What does one girl-y type bassist carry in her gig bag?
Here's what's inside:
#1 The Digitech BP80 multi-effect pedal/tuner. Effects are cool. Playing in tune is cool. The BP200 would be cooler, but I go with what I have.
#2 Instrument cables. Two of 'em. Just in case. I prefer Live Wire. Good price, good sound, lifetime guarantee.
#3 Duct Tape. For cable control. And drummer control when necessary.
#4 My old Seiko guitar tuner. In case someone forgets theirs or #1 goes out.
#5 My Seiko metronome. For settling tempo disputes at rehearsals.
#6 9-volt batteries. Six of 'em. For #1, #4, #5, my bass, and anyone in the band who forgot to bring spares. Woah! Time to stock up!
#7 My microphone. I like the Sure SM58. Good sound, good price, good reputation.
#8 Cosmetics. You know, paint sprayer, jack hammer, sand blaster, shellac. 'Cause a girl's gotta look good on stage, right? And she has to be prepared for...uh...girl-y surprises, so that's a check, too!
#9 First Aid. Okay, so just Advil and Band-aids. But someone needs them like, EVERY gig!
#10 Guitar emergency kit. For the guitar players, not me. Extra strings (electric & acoustic), extra picks, and a winder. Let's just say I've rescued a few gigs from certain death on several different occasions by covering my guitarists' backs.
#11 Tool kit: Wire cutters, cross-point screwdriver, scissors, mechanical pencils, several different colors of labeling tape, key chain flashlight, adapters, super glue, ear plugs...Just want to be prepared, right?
#12 A surge protector/power brick. To plug in my amp, #1, the keyboard (I share), and my little portable fan. I get hot when I gig!
#13. This. NO! Not the bass. The stand!
It folds down like this and fits right into the bag. Cool, huh?
That's it. Zip it up and I'm ready to rock!
So, why do I feel like Mary Poppins?

Wow, that's a lot of stuff in there! I love number 8...made me laugh!
Happy TT!

Great list...although I'm not sure how I feel about the "drummer control" use for duct tape... =P
Happy TT!

Sounds like my golf purse. I swear, I could win something on whatever that show was where they asked the studio audience if they had stuff like a hard boiled egg or an electric toothbrush or whatever in their purse.

You have much to teach me, who comes at music from a roadie/record rep/DJ angle.
I'm digging this.

Wow, that bag must get heavy at times. Of course, I chose an instrument that I cannot carry (the piano) to learn to play. I want to play the guitar, and will start my son with lessons soon.

Great list, mine is up at 13 Not So Famous Last Words; Most Americans die peacefully in their beds, but for those who die violently one can only guess what their final words must have been. I think that after you read these you will have to agree that they do indeed sound like they might have been the last words of those who did not go peacefully into the night.

That was a very interesting post for T13. My, my, you have a lot to carry and keep up with. My T13 is posted, too.

One of the more interesting lists I've seen today. Female bassists seem to be few and far between. LOVE that you cover your guitarists backs...and the duct tape.
Thanks for stopping by.

#3 - I can laugh at because I know a few drummers and can see how it could come in handy!
Happy TT, and thanks for stopping by!

Got to love the duck tape - really awesome. What's funny to me is how similar your gig bag is to my beekeeping bag. I'll have to TT that.... I thought Monster Cables were the thing ... I'll check out the cables you use.
I have to tell you... this brings back memories of being the band chick. ;) Now, I'm like the band Mom. My friend is a rock review who puts on gigs, so I'm the one who has the advil and the cash card!
Happy TT!

How awesome that you keep the guitar emergency kit in there - I hope you got full credit for saving their butts when you needed it, too.

Wow, you're prepared. I like the duct tape. I should add that to my "emergency kit" when I take trips with the kids.
Thanks for visiting my TT!

I love #13. That's just cool how it breaks down like that. Also, duct tape is something that everyone should carry. It's like the Force. It has a light side and a dark side and it binds the Universe together.

OKAY....Duct tape? For controlling drummers??? I should just throw a stick at you!! But, seriously, Carol. Cosmetics in your GIG bag????
you have my permission to duct tape my mouth!
